Ever opened a knitting pattern and immediately felt overwhelmed?
In this class, we'll decode all the information packed into a pattern, from yarn weights and needle sizes to abbreviations, gauge, and stitch counts. We'll talk about how to choose yarn, what information actually matters, and how to confidently get started on a new project.
If you've mastered the basics but still find yourself wondering, "What does all of this mean?" this class is for you.
Part of Jenna's Knitting 200 series, helping knitters move from following instructions to understanding what they're doing and why.
Pre-requisites:
- Casting On
- Knit stitch
- Purl stitch
- Have completed (or at least started) one knitting project.
This is NOT an absolute beginner class. Please be aware that class time will not be spent on reteaching the aforementioned prerequisites.
Supplies Needed:
- A printed copy of a pattern of your choice
- Pen/pencil
- Highlighter
- Yarn & needles for the project/pattern of your choice (You may bring multiple needles/yarns for us to discuss for the pattern of your choosing.)
Supplies purchased at Yarncom for this class will receive a 10% discount. *some exclusions apply
Homework:
- Purchase & print the pattern of your choice
- Gather the rest of your supplies
Minimum Number of Students: 2
If class minimum is not met by 48 hours before class start, class will be cancelled. Registrants will be contacted via phone and/or email, and refunded the full class fee to their original form of payment.

Jenna is an avid knitter and enjoys crochet. She is the host of the show Knitting After Dark on her TikTok, @Jenna.knits.knits. She shares her adventures in creating, both for loved ones and herself, with her followers and students. Her love of yarn and creating is evident to everyone who shares a table with her. Jenna looks forward to meeting new crafters and students and sharing her passion for yarn.
Jenna enjoys adding her own twist to patterns, such as swapping up the colors or changing the gauge to use a yarn she loves. She works hard to make sure everyone feels welcome and enjoys learning. A class with Jenna is a happy time.
