Ready to try cables? In this intermediate-level class, you'll knit a classic cabled beanie (Jared Flood's Proof Hat) while learning the techniques that create beautiful twisted stitch patterns. We'll work in the round using circular and double-pointed needles, practice increasing and decreasing for shaping, use a cable needle, and learn how to follow a chart. By the end of class, you'll have the skills and confidence to tackle future cable projects.

Pre-requisites:

  • Casting on
  • Binding off
  • Knit stitch
  • Purl stitch
  • Slipping stitches
  • Determining gauge

This is NOT an absolute beginner class. Please be aware that class time will not be spent on reteaching the aforementioned prerequisites.

Supplies Needed:

  • Pattern provided in class
  • Yarn: 175 yards DK weight wool yarn (~2 skeins)
  • Needles: US 7 and US 5 16" circular needles AND US 7 Double pointed needles (or size needle needed to obtain gauge)
  • Stitch markers
  • Cable needle
  • Tapestry needle

Supplies purchased at Yarncom for this class will receive a 10% discount. *some exclusions apply

Homework:

Determine gauge for your yarn choice to ensure 32 stitches & 32 rounds = 4 inches using larger needles

Minimum Number of Students: 5

If class minimum is not met by 48 hours before class start, class will be cancelled. Registrants will be contacted via phone and/or email, and refunded the full class fee to their original form of payment.

Elizabeth Fleitz has been crafting since she was a child, when her mother taught her how to do rug hooking. Elizabeth learned to crochet and knit during her PhD program as a way to relax. She's made everything from afghans to sweaters to socks as gifts for others or herself. She loves sharing her love of fiber arts with others, and can't wait to help you learn to knit or crochet!
